External School Review

The purpose of external school review is to support schools to raise student achievement and sustain high performance.  The process is transparent and contributes to the realisation of the department’s strategic plan to build a high performing system, provide quality assurance, and build confidence in our school.

The external school review framework has been developed with reference to the department’s policies and national and international school effectiveness and school improvement models.  The framework draws heavily on evidence-based research and focuses on the use of practices proven to impact significantly on the achievement of outcomes for all students at the classroom and school level.

The external school review process is intended to strengthen the school’s focus on learning. The process provides an external perspective to verify or challenge internal self-review findings, the rigour of improvement practices or the capacity to achieve or sustain improvement over time.

In 2021 Birdwood High School engaged in the External School Review process with pleasing outcomes identified in all areas of learning.
